Welcome to FlyBudget!

I am a full-time software engineer who has been working on FlyBudget for the past couple of months. I have always been a bit of a nerd when it comes to tracking my finances and knowing where my money is actually going. Over the years, I have used a LOT of different budgeting apps and open-source projects, and I always found myself thinking, "I really like this part... but I wish it did this too." FlyBudget is basically my attempt to bring all of those ideas from each app together while building something I genuinely want to use every day.

This is also my first time really diving into open source, which is honestly one of the parts I am most excited about. I don't want FlyBudget to just be a random side project that lives on my computer. I would love to build a community around it where people can suggest features, report problems, contribute code, improve documentation, or just share how they use the application. I have learned a ton from open-source projects over the years, so it feels pretty cool to finally be putting something of my own out there for other people to use and hopefully contribute to.

Most importantly, I plan on supporting FlyBudget for years to come. This is not something I am building for a few months and then forgetting about. I use it myself, I genuinely enjoy working on it, and I already have way too many ideas for where I want to take it (limiting the scope has probably been one of the hardest parts). My goal is to keep making FlyBudget simpler, more useful, and easier for people to run themselves while always keeping it free, private, and open source. I am really excited to see where the project goes, who ends up using it, and what we can build around it!
